MANILA, Philippines — A man allegedly involved in a “rent-tangay” scam was arrested in Quezon City on Friday.

Jhoemar Garcia, 33, was arrested by personnel of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in Barangay Del Monte at around 8:20 p.m.

Col. Wilson Doromal, who heads the HPG’s National Capital Region (NCR) field office, said Garcia is facing numerous charges of estafa and carnapping before the city prosecutor’s office of Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Doromal said some of Garcia’s victims warned people on social media platform Facebook about the suspect’s illegal activities.

Garcia’s arrest stemmed from the complaint of a resident of Sta. Rosa who claimed the suspect did not return his Mitsubishi Mirage after borrowing it.

Police conducted an entrapment after Garcia agreed to meet with the victim near a shopping mall along Del Monte Avenue.

Garcia was placed under arrest and brought to the HPG-NCR office at Camp Crame. Seized from him were various identification cards with different names and a quarantine pass.

The suspect is being held on charges of carnapping, using fictitious and concealing true name, falsification of public documents and violation of Republic Act 11489 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
