MANILA, Philippines — Registration for the National ID System will begin in Metro Manila and other areas not currently included in the list of 32 priority provinces in January 2021, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said yesterday.

National Statistician Dennis Mapa said there are teams coordinating with local government units in the National Capital Region and other areas for the pre-registration and registration processes by the start of next year.

“What the PSA is planning is that by January 2021, we will cover all areas in the country,” he said.

On Monday, the PSA will begin the pre-registration process for the foundational identification system that will cover at least five million heads of households in the 32 priority provinces.

The pre-registration process, which entails the collection of demographic information, will pave the way for actual registration that will begin on Nov. 25, during which biometric information will be collected. The physical ID will be distributed next year.
