Woman wanted for human trafficking held in Navotas

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A woman wanted for human trafficking was arrested in Navotas City on Wednesday, the police Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) said yesterday.

Catherine Tandas was nabbed in Barangay Tangos North, AKG director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo said in a report.

Estomo said policemen served a warrant for the arrest of Tandas issued by Judge Ronald Exmundo of Kalibo, Aklan Regional Trial Court for violation of Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.

Tandas is the No. 9 most wanted person in Aklan.

Police records showed that she has been involved in human trafficking since 2015.

The suspect allegedly brought women from Metro Manila to the Visayas to work as sex slaves.

The AKG will bring Tandas to Aklan to stand trial, Estomo said.
