Quezon City health workers get free antibody testing
MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government has provided free antibody testing to healthcare workers who have recovered from coronavirus disease or been exposed to COVID-19 patients.
Health workers from the three city- owned hospitals – Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH), Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital and Novaliches District Hospital – underwent antibody testing on Wednesday.
QCGH director Josephine Sabando said the tests would determine who among the survivors were able to develop antibodies for COVID-19.
“If they already have antibodies, we will be able to put them on the list of possible donors of convalescent plasma that can be used by severe COVID-19 patients,” Sabando said.
The city government said samples taken from the healthcare workers were tested in the newly procured Roche antibody testing machine, which can process 96 samples per hour.
Each test takes only 23 minutes, including the extraction of blood from the patient.
“Our priority is to test our healthcare workers. This is part of our commitment to ensure that our medical personnel are safe from the virus,” Sabando said.
