Michael Punongbayan, Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels burned four 10-wheeler cargo trucks owned by a food processing company in Sitio Talambao, Barangay Bulahan, Claveria, Misamis Oriental before 10 a.m. yesterday.

Around 100 rebels torched the cargo trucks, which are being used to haul seedlings and newly harvested pineapples, according to a police report.

Lt. Col. Ricky Canatoy, 58th Infantry Battalion commander, said the rebels escaped toward Barangay San Juan in Balingasag town.

As this developed, in Negros Occidental, the 3rd Infantry Division announced the arrest of four suspected NPA rebels at a checkpoint in Moises Padilla town.

One of the suspects, Jovanie Bohol, 25, reportedly yielded a caliber .45 pistol while a certain Wilmar Pongasi, said to be a member of the Kabataang Makabayan, was caught in the possession of ammunition for an M203 grenade launcher.
