MANILA, Philippines — Citing personal and serious reasons, Justice Undersecretary and spokesman Markk Perete has resigned from his post.

Perete announced his resignation yesterday.

He sent messages informing reporters covering the Department of Justice of his decision to resign from the DOJ.

“After much thought, I have decided to submit my resignation effective Oct. 1 due to serious reasons,” Perete said. “My reasons are very personal and I humbly request for everyone’s understanding.”

Perete said he did not inform Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra about his resignation.

“I would have liked to continue under Secretary Guevarra’s leadership, but it would be a disservice to do so at this time,” he said.

Perete was appointed by Guevarra as one of the undersecretaries in July 2018. After four months, Perete was named DOJ spokesman.

He also served as undersecretary-in-charge of the Bureau of Immigration.

Perete worked with Guevarra on important legal issues.

He was part of the Task Force PhilHealth that was given 30 days by President Duterte to probe alleged corruption of some officials of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp.

Prior to his stint in the DOJ, Perete was technical assistant at the Office of the President with the rank of assistant secretary for legal affairs.

Perete graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 2006.
