MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported 37 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 among its personnel.The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported 37 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 among its personnel.

The figure brought to 5,705 the total number of police officers and personnel infected with the virus.

A majority of fresh cases came from the Cordillera police with 10, followed by Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and the National Capital Region Police Office with four each.

The rest came from the National Administrative Support Unit, National Operational Support Unit, Central Luzon and Zamboanga peninsula police with three each; National Headquarters, Northern Mindanao and Western Visayas with two each and Eastern Visayas, one.

The number of confirmed cases increased by 313 since Saturday last week while the active cases remain at 1,188.

The total recoveries within the force climbed to 4,500 after 90 more personnel recovered from the disease, while fatalities remain at 17.
