21 LGU-run COVID-19 test labs operational
MANILA, Philippines — At least 21 testing centers for coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 run by various local government units (LGUs) are now operational.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government said the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction testing laboratories would help boost the country’s overall testing capacity as they serve the needs of local communities.
Fourteen of the COVID testing laboratories are in Luzon, three in the Visayas and four in Mindanao.
The laboratories passed the five-stage criteria set by the Department of Health (DOH).
Twenty more molecular laboratories are being assessed by the DOH.
There are 130 COVID-19 laboratories across the country, with testing capacity of 30,000 per day.
More than 3.4 million COVID-19 tests had been conducted nationwide as of Sept. 21.
