PMA still off-limits to tourists

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines —  Tourists are still banned at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) even as this city reopened to visitors from the Ilocos region starting yesterday.

PMA commandant of cadets Brig. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said Mayor Benjamin Magalong agreed to their request to exempt the military academy from the sites to be reopened.

PMA remains free of the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19. Fort Del Pilar remains on lockdown and cadets are not allowed to go out.

“We want to maintain the safety of our cadets,” Brawner said.

City tourism officer Alec Mapalo reminded visitors that do-it-yourself and day tours are not allowed.

Mapalo said visitors are required to pre-register, fill out a health declaration form and present their latest swab test result showing they are negative for COVID-19. Visitors are required to have hotel bookings and undergo triage upon arrival in the city.
