Bong Go aids poor communities in Batangas City

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go has responded to calls for help from low-income families facing difficulties amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

On Monday, Go’s staff distributed food packs, cooked meals, facemasks and face shields to 354 residents in Batangas City. Thirty-five people received bicycles. The event was carried out in strict compliance with health and safety protocols.

“Nalaman ko po na kailangan ninyo ng kaunting tulong kaya pinakiusapan kaagad natin ang Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD),” Go said in a video call.

“Hindi po kayo pababayaan ng gobyernong palaging nagmamalasakit sa inyo. Konting tiis lang po. Malalampasan rin natin ang pagsubok na ito kung magbayanihan tayo,” he said.

Representatives from the DSWD distributed additional food packs through its assistance to individuals in crisis situation program. They also provided cash assistance to residents who did not benefit from the government’s social amelioration program.

Go, chairman of the Senate committee on health and demography, also offered assistance to Batangueños requiring medical treatment through the Malasakit Center at the Batangas Provincial Hospital in Lemery.

“Kung gusto ninyo po magpagamot lapitan ninyo lang po. Kung hindi kaya dyan sa Batangas dadalhin po natin kayo dito sa Maynila. Ako ang sasalo sa opera, heart surgery, bypass o ano man,” he added.
