288 nurses needed in Bacolod

Gilbert Bayoran - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — More nurses are needed in hospitals in this city to help reduce the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday.

In a letter to National Action Plan Against COVID-19 chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr., Leonardia said the city needs 288 nurses, based on the requests of the hospital directors.

Leonardia expressed confidence that Bacolod would be prioritized, noting the city’s current COVID cases and the passage of the Bayanihan 2 Act.

“It may not probably be 100 percent. What matters is, we have established how many nurses we need,” Leonardia said.

The city government extended the validity of the  home quarantine passes as well as checkpoint operations until Sept. 30 as the city is under modified enhanced community quarantine.

The Department of Health in Western Visayas posted on its website that it is hiring public health associates, including nurses, who will be deployed in Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Negros Occidental.

The health workers will work from October to December with a monthly salary of P32,053.
