PNPA holds online classes

Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Classes at the Philippine National Police Academy continued online for cadets who are not infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, the PNPA said yesterday.

Face-to-face classes at the academy have been suspended indefinitely after 232 cadets tested positive for COVID.

At present, 359 cadets and personnel of the PNPA are undergoing quarantine in six isolation facilities of the academy, according to PNPA director Maj. Gen. Gilberto Cruz.

Of the figure, up to 232 are cadets. The rest are PNPA personnel who were exposed to suspected COVID cases.

The number of cases has not increased since it was recorded more than a week ago.

Aside from the cadets, five officers, two non-officers and four maintenance personnel were among those infected with the virus.

Before the PNPA declared a lockdown on Sept. 8, classes were conducted in classrooms with the cadets observing health protocols such as wearing of face masks and face shield as well as social distancing.

Activities that require students to gather were also suspended.
