2 Reds slain in Kudarat encounter

SULTAN KUDARAT, Philippines — Two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas tagged in the burning of construction equipment and killing of a soldier were killed in an encounter in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat on Sunday.

The guerrillas, whose identities were not immediately available, reportedly exchanged fire with troopers of the Army’s 37th Infantry Battalion at the boundary of Barangays Santa Clara and Andong, according to Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon of the Army’s 6th IB.

The suspects were among a group of men who torched a backhoe in Barangay Andong after its owner reportedly refused to pay revolutionary taxes.
