Hunt on for taxi driver in fatal hit-and-run
MANILA, Philippines — Police are hunting down a taxi driver who was involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed an elderly woman in San Andres Bukid, Manila yesterday morning.
Probers have yet to identify the fatality who was clad in a printed shirt and shorts.
Lt. Rexy Bartolome, deputy chief of the Manila Police District Vehicle Traffic Investigation Section, said the woman was crossing the corner of Osmeña Highway and Zobel Roxas street when the taxi struck her at around 5:37 a.m.
Witnesses said the cabbie alighted from the vehicle and approached the victim before fleeing.
“When the suspect saw the woman lifeless, the driver returned to his taxi and escaped toward Paco,” Bartolome said.
Police said they would review closed-circuit television footage in the area for possible identification of the suspect, who is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
