MANILA, Philippines — Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco yesterday expressed his gratitude to the city’s frontliners as cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) went down in August.

Tiangco made the statement after former COVID-19 task force special adviser Tony Leachon called Navotas a “great reference model for testings” after the city recorded a 36 percent decrease in the number of infections.

Based on figures graphed by ABS-CBN Data Analytics as of Aug. 24, Leachon said COVID-19 cases in Navotas are on a downward seven-day moving average trend.

This comes in the wake of a two-week lockdown that ended in July when Metro Manila was under general community quarantine.

According to Leachon, COVID-19 cases in Navotas went down from 1,502 from July 27 to Aug. 9 to 964 from Aug. 10 to 23.

As of Aug. 30, there were 494 active COVID-19 cases in Navotas, 3,678 recoveries and 123 deaths for a total of 4,295 cases.

Tiangco urged the residents to continue complying with health protocols and not waste the gains of the lockdowns enforced in the city to stem the spread of the virus.

He also asked Navoteños to avail themselves of the city’s free swab testing.
