Quake rocks Mindanao
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-4.8 earthquake rocked parts of Mindanao yesterday, but no damage or injuries were reported, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake, which occurred at 1:44 a.m., was centered some eight kilometers southwest of Kiblawan, Davao del Sur.
It was felt at Intensity 5 in Kiblawan and Malungon in Sarangani.
Intensity 4 was felt in Davao City, Digos City and Sta. Cruz in Davao del Sur; Tupi in South Cotabato, and in the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte.
Intensity 3 was felt in Koronadal, Bansalan and Magsaysay, all in Davao del Sur, and Columbio in Sultan Kudarat.
The temblor was felt at Intensity 2 in Kidapawan City and General Santos City as well as in the towns of Antipas and Makilala in Cotabato.
Quakes of Intensities 5 and 4 are classified by Phivolcs as strong and moderately strong, respectively.
Phivolcs said it was not expecting any damage or aftershocks from the quake.
