MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways is rushing the construction of a 72-bed quarantine facility at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said on Sunday.

According to Villar, the conversion of 18 shipping containers into isolation rooms is ongoing as part of the 23 additional facilities being built by the DPWH to augment COVID-19 bed capacity in Metro Manila.

“As of now, 15 shipping containers were delivered at the site and we have accomplished 45 percent of the project,” he said.

The conversion of 40 containers into a 160 isolation rooms near WMall along Macapagal Avenue is also nearing completion, Villar said.

The quarantine facility at the Folk Arts Theater, which will have 276 cubicles and five nursing stations is 65 percent complete.

The DPWH has finished the Pasay City Sports Complex quarantine center, which has 62 cubicles, a nursing station, a working area and an X-ray room.
