North Cotabato town cop chief slain
NORTH COTABATO, Philippines —The police chief of Carmen town was killed in a shootout with suspected robbers yesterday.
Maj. Joan Resurrecion was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
The suspects managed to escape.
Carmen Mayor Moises Arendain, municipal peace and order council chairman, said Resurrecion and his men were conducting pursuit operations after an Indian money lender was robbed and killed in Sitio Tawan-Tawan in Barangay Poblacion when the suspects opened fire.
Arendain sought the assistance of barangay officials to help identify the killers.
Meanwhile, Gov. Nancy Catamco offered a cash reward for the arrest of the perpetrators of the killing of Manobo tribe leader Bae Milda Ansabo on Sunday.
Police said the assailants shot Ansabo then slashed her throat and removed her eyes.
