2 SUVs ram concrete barriers along EDSA

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Two vehicular accidents were recorded along EDSA yesterday as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) finished installing 1,200 steel bollards to replace a portion of the concrete barriers along the busway.

MMDA traffic chief Bong Nebrija said two sport utility vehicles (SUV) plowed through the concrete barriers.

Nebrija said the steel bollards covering 1.2 kilometers were installed along the northbound lane of EDSA-Shaw Boulevard tunnel.

The first SUV rammed five concrete barriers after avoiding a passing truck, the MMDA said.

Another SUV struck two concrete barriers along Shaw Boulevard, just a few meters past the newly installed steel bollards.

MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said the agency recorded 94 concrete barrier-related accidents along EDSA from June 1 to Aug. 23.
