Tribe leader slain

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines — Unidentified assailants shot dead a female leader of the Manobo tribe in the hinterlands of Magpet town in this province on Sunday.

Bae Milda Ansabo of Barangay Mahongkog died at the scene.

Ansabo was active in promoting programs protecting ancestral lands from outsiders and capitalists.

The assailants first shot the victim, slashed her throat and removed her eyes, probers said.
