2 students die in road mishap
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Two Grade 11 students died after their motorcycle crashed into a dump truck in Dolores, Abra on Sunday.
Janleane Kiefer Blanco, 16, and John Dreifuss Tumalip, 16, died at the scene, according to Lt. Elizalde Kibayen, deputy chief of the Dolores police.
The victims were traveling along the Abra-Kalinga Road in Barangay Mudiit when Blanco lost control of the wheel, causing the motorcycle to hit the truck driven by Sistofer Bayubay.
The victims were not wearing helmets, probers said Bayubay was taken to the police station for questioning.
Meanwhile, a woman died after she was hit by an ambulance in Aparri, Cagayan on Sunday.
Evelyn Nadate, 45, was running an errand for her employer when she figured in the accident in Barangay Macanaya at past 9 p.m.
Ambulance driver Mark Acasili, 29, told probers he was trying to avoid two motorcycles when he hit Nadate, who was crossing the highway.
