BI deports 75 Chinese
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported 75 Chinese who were arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal online gaming operations.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the Chinese boarded a chartered plane bound for Zhenghou after the Chinese embassy arranged their departure at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Wednesday.
Morente said the Chinese were held at the BI detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig following their arrest last December.
The deportees were among the 300 Chinese arrested by the BI and members of the Quezon City Police District for allegedly engaging in online gambling without permits.
Morente said the Chinese were blacklisted and banned from re-entering the Philipines for violating the country’s immigration laws.
“Their passports were canceled by the Chinese government. They will be prosecuted in China where they are facing economic crimes,” he said. — Rudy Santos
