2 NPA leaders surrender in Quezon
GEN. NAKAR, Quezon, Philippines — Two New People’s Army (NPA) leaders surrendered in this town on Wednesday.
Mayor Eliseo Ruzol Jr. coordinated with Col. Audie Madrideo, Quezon police director, for the safe passage of the surrenderees in Sitio Maninga, Barangay Lumutan.
Pascual and Joven, both surnamed, Ratana, were squad and platoon leaders, respectively, of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee. An NPA amazon, Geralyn Gurango, also surrendered.
Maj. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr., 2nd Infantry Division commander, said an alias Termo and Jethro, commander and secretary of the regional NPA group’s guerrilla unit, were killed in a recent encounter with government troopers in Kalayaan, Laguna.
”Their deaths caused massive demoralization within the NPA ranks,” Burgos said
