Angkas gives free rides for Manila’s health workers

MANILA, Philippines — Motorcycle ride-hailing app Angkas is expanding its free transportation program for medical frontliners in partnership with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

Angkas yesterday said it would be providing free rides and protective shields to healthcare workers in Manila as part of its campaign to assist medical frontliners with efficient mobility solutions during the modified enhanced community quarantine.

Angkas bikers will be deployed to six hospitals in the city to ensure that health workers get home safe after their shifts.

These are the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, Ospital ng Maynila, Ospital ng Sampaloc, Ospital ng Tondo, Sta. Ana Hospital and Justice Jose Abad Santos Memorial Hospital.

“Hospitals are the hubs where healthcare workers fight the battle against the virus every single day,” Angkas chief transport advocate George Royeca said.

Angkas also donated to Moreno protective shields to prevent the transmission of the virus from the passenger to the driver.

Angkas recently partnered with the Philippine National Police, Department of the Interior and Local Government and National Task Force on COVID-19 to provide free shields and rides to frontliners.

The free rides will be offered until Aug. 18.
