COVID-19 death toll at PNP hits 12
MANILA, Philippines — A 49-year-old policewoman from the Philippine National Police’s Finance Service has succumbed to coronavirus disease 2019, bringing to 12 the number of PNP personnel who died of COVID-19.
PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said the patient died in a hospital on Aug.4. A confirmatory test on her swab samples revealed she contracted COVID-19.
The policewoman was among 27 new patients in the PNP with COVID-19, which brought to 2,434 the total number of police personnel who were infected with the virus.
Banac said 1,479 or 60.76 percent of the patients have recovered while 955 are still undergoing treatment in hospitals and isolation facilities.
Twelve of the new patients are assigned in Metro Manila, including one at Camp Crame.
Three are in Bicol, three in Zamboanga peninsula, one in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and one in Western Visayas.
The other six are assigned in various national administrative and operational support units of the PNP.
