Retired cop shot dead
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Unidentified assailants shot dead a retired police officer in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Friday.
Reynaldo Gasataya, 71, was on a motorcycle when he was killed in Sitio Lumbia, Barangay Biniculi.
Gasataya was declared dead on arrival at the Kabankalan District Hospital from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Lt. John Paul Tabujara, deputy chief of the Kabankalan police.
The victim was assigned at the Cauayan police and 2nd Provincial Mobile Group in Hinigaran when he was still in the service.
Probers recovered bullet shells for a pistol and rifle at the crime scene. They are eyeing a land dispute as the motive for the killing.
Police have yet to check footage of a closed-circuit television camera installed in the area.
