MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives has recorded two new confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, bringing its number of cases to 33 so far.

House secretary general Jose Luis Montales said the first case, a security staff, tested positive when he underwent rapid antibody testing as part of the State of the Nation Address screening protocol last July 27.

“His RT-PCR test confirmed the result. Prior to July 27, he helped secure the plenary hall on July 21 and 23,” the official bared.

The second case, on the other hand, is assigned at the Administrative Department.

“She got herself tested on Aug. 1 after experiencing dryness and discomfort in her throat. She reported for work on July 15 and 16. She consulted with our Medical and Dental Services on July 29,” revealed Montales.

“Contact tracing is ongoing. These two new cases bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the House of Representatives to 33. Three of them passed away,” the House official added.

Earlier, four congressmen tested positive for COVID-19 – Henry Villarica of Bulacan, Samier Tan of Sulu, Deputy Speaker Johnny Pimentel of Surigao del Sur and Mujiv Hataman of Basilan.
