Church ends 21 days of prayer for healing
DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — The Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan will conclude the 21 days of prayer for national healing with a mass tomorrow.
Archbishop Socrates Villegas said priests as well as religious and lay leaders will join the 11 a.m. mass at the Basilica of the Our Lady of Manaoag.
For 21 days since July 16, the Catholic Church has been praying to the Blessed Virgin to forgive the personal sins of the people as well as the national sins.
Aug. 5 is the feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, to which the Manaoag Basilica is affiliated.
Villegas said the 21 days refers to the “21 major sins of rebellion of Israel against God since it was liberated from slavery in Egypt.”
“The 21 sins of rebellion by Israel are similar to the sins of our time,” Villegas said.
The 21 days of prayer for national healing was initiated to relieve the nation from the strains caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
Tomorrow’s mass will be livestreamed on various social media platforms.
