MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police on Saturday reported 40 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019, bringing to 2,191 the number of PNP personnel infected with COVID-19.

Data showed that the National Capital Region Police Office posted 20 cases.

The PNP national headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City and the Central Visayas police logged four cases each. The Health Service and Central Luzon police have three cases each.

The Highway Patrol Group registered two cases. The Information Technology Management Service, Intelligence Group and the regional police offices of Calabarzon and Mimaropa have one case each.

Total recoveries rose to 863 after 40 police officers recovered from the disease. The number of deaths stood at 11.

At least 3,082 police personnel are being monitored after they manifested symptoms of the virus or had interaction with COVID-19 patients.

PNP deputy chief for operations Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said they are improving health measures to prevent COVID-19 infections in the police force.

House posts 31 cases

Two more employees of the House of Representatives have contracted COVID-19, secretary general Jose Luis Montales reported yesterday.

Montales said the employees are from the Human Resources Management Service and Engineering Department.

The new cases brought to 31 the number of COVID-19 infections at the House, including Deputy Speakers Mujiv Hataman of Basilan and Johnny Pimentel of Surigao del Sur.
