Nurse slain in Palawan ambush
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A nurse was killed while a driver was wounded when a group of armed men opened fire at an ambulance in Roxas, Palawan on Saturday.
Aljerome Bernardo, 51, died at the scene from a gunshot to the chest, according to Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson for the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) police.
Alex de la Peña, 51, was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds in the body.
The victims – who were in an ambulance with their companions Armando Carbajosa, 49, and Christopher Tamolin, 39 – were traveling along the highway in Barangay Dumaran when they were attacked.
Although not wounded, Carbajosa and Tamolin were taken to the hospital for medical checkup.
Probers have yet to determine the motive for the attack.
