Manila to allot P200 million for COVID-19 vaccine
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila city government will set aside P200 million in its budget next year to purchase COVID-19 vaccines once it is available in the market, Mayor Isko Moreno said yesterday.
Moreno said he has asked the city council to allocate P200 million for the vaccines in the 2021 budget.
“We are preparing for the end game, because the only end game to this is the vaccine,” Moreno said.
Without divulging names, Moreno said he has coordinated with pharmaceutical companies involved in the race to manufacture the vaccine to the respiratory virus.
Moreno said he was told the council, led by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, is set to pass the ordinance appropriating the budget for the vaccine.
In the meantime, the mayor urged the public to avail of the city’s three walk-in facilities for COVID-19 antibody tests in Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital and Ospital ng Sampaloc, as well as the two drive-through testing sites at the Kartilya ng Katipunan and Quirino Grandstand.
