MANILA, Philippines — Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan has put Barangay 132 on lockdown starting today due to rising cases of COVID-19.

Malapitan said the barangay will be put on total lockdown starting midnight until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 8 after 36 residents tested positive for COVID-19.

Barangay 142 in Caloocan was also put on lockdown that started yesterday and will last until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 7. At least 28 residents there tested positive for COVID-19.

The Caloocan City Medical Center (CCMC)-South  was put on lockdown for a second time after 61 personnel tested positive for the virus, hospital administrator Dr. Fernando Santos said.

The hospital including the emergency room was put on lockdown until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 14. Patients already confined in the hospital may continue their stay during the lockdown.

The hospital’s outpatient department relocated to the old city hall plaza will continue operating, Malapitan said.

Malapitan urged patients to look for other hospitals because the CCMC South has reached its “overflowing capacity.”

Meanwhile, the CCMC North Caloocan will remain open for patients.

As of July 31, there were 2,452 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Caloocan, with 117 deaths and 1,526 recoveries.
