Rainy in Luzon, Visayas as LPA moves closer

Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure aresure area monitored off Bicol moved closer to landmass yesterday and continued to dump rains over Luzon and the Visayas.

As of 3 p.m., the weather system was monitored 35 kilometers north-northwest of Daet, Camarines Norte.

The weather disturbance was not expected to intensify into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The state weather bureau said the low-pressure area and the southwest monsoon were expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered  rains and thunderstorms over Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas and the provinces of Aurora and Camarines Sur in the next 24 hours.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms were also forecast over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, the Visayas and Zamboanga peninsula.

PAGASA warned the public, especially residents of low-lying areas, against possible floodings and landslides that may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall.

The country’s next cyclone will be locally named Dindo.

Three cyclones have entered the Philippine area of responsibility since January.
