Muntinlupa passes face mask ordinance
MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Muntinlupa has passed an ordinance setting penalties for individuals who fail to wear face masks in public places for the duration of the community quarantine.
Mayor Jaime Fresnedi signed on Monday City Ordinance 2020-109, which amended an earlier ordinance mandating the wearing of face masks while in public.
The new ordinance penalizes violators with a P300 fine for the first offense, P500 for the second offense and P1,000 for the third and subsequent offenses.
Minors would be given a stern warning for the first offense; a P300 fine or withdrawal of scholarship grant for the second offense and P500 for the third and subsequent offenses.
In Pasay, the city government directed police and local officials to strictly enforce the wearing of face masks, physical distancing and other quarantine protocols.
The city’s ordinance on face masks sets a P1,000 fine for the first offense, P2,000 for the second offense and P5,000 as well as a month in jail for the third and succeeding offenses.
