Panel to probe Sulu ‘shootout’ Formed

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has formed a panel to investigate a shooting incident in Sulu that resulted in the death of four Army intelligence officers.

The panel, composed of four prosecutors, will look into charges of murder and planting of evidence filed against nine members of the Jolo police tagged in the killing of Maj. Marvin Indammog, Cpt. Irwin Managuelod, Sgt. Jaime Velasco Jr. and Cpl. Abdal Asula, all of the Intelligence and Security Unit of the Philippine Army, DOJ prosecutor general Benedicto Malcontento said yesterday.

The panel will be headed by Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Gilmarie Fe Pacamarra while Assistant State Prosecutors Consuelo Corazon Pazziuagan and Alejandro Daguiso, and Public Attorney Gino Angelo Yanga will serve as members.

The respondents have yet to file their counter-affidavits on the charges filed against them.

The National Bureau of Investigation filed the charges against the respondents on July 21.
