Ship catches fire off Batangas
MANILA, Philippines — A cargo vessel caught fire as it was sailing in the waters off Batangas yesterday morning.
The fire that broke out at around 4:53 a.m. in M/V Moreta Venture was declared out at around 8 a.m.
The Philippine Coast Guard dispatched its BRP Boracay, which is equipped with a water cannon, to help extinguish the flames on Moreta Venture, according to PCG spokesperson Cmdr. Armand Balilo.
Boracay was docked in nearby Sta. Clara town when the PCG received information that a vessel caught fire near Maricaban Island.
All of Moreta Venture’s officers and crewmembers were not hurt in the incident, PCG-Southern Tagalog District commander Cmdr. Leovigildo Panopio said.
“Moreta Venture will be towed to the nearest port for safety,” Panopio said.
