Man slain in gun duel

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A man was killed following a gun duel with a village chief, who was wounded in the incident that occurred in Sta. Teresita, Batangas on Sunday night.

Ronald Mendoza died at the scene due to multiple gunshots to the body, police said.

Mendoza’s opponent Wilfredo Manalo, chairman of Barangay Poblacion, was taken to the Metro Lemery Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds in the hands and legs.

Police said Mendoza and Manalo figured in a spat that led to a duel in Barangay Poblacion.

Probers have yet to investigate the incident.
