‘No lapses in PNPA health protocols’
MANILA, Philippines – There were no lapses in the health protocols of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), the PNP said yesterday following the deaths of two cadets last week.
PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa said the training exercises at the PNPA are relatively light.
“They are running at an average of 1.3 kilometers per day that is the most strenuous activity,” Gamboa said, noting that during his time, the cadets ran five kilometers every day.
Still, he said the PNP would review the academy’s training exercises to determine the reasons for the cadets’ death.
Activities at the academy have been suspended after Cadet Fourth Class Kenneth Ross Alvarado died of heat stroke on Wednesday.
Days later, Cadet Fourth Class Jiary Jasen Papa died of hypokalemia or electrolyte imbalance.
Gamboa said it is possible the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 could have infected the training camps.
He said the cadets and training staff would be subjected to swab tests.
