PNP coronavirus cases top 1,000

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The number of Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 has breached 1,000.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said a total of 1,006 police personnel have been infected after 25 tested positive for the virus based on results released on Thursday night.

The death toll remains at nine while 455 or 45.22 percent of the patients have recovered.

Banac said eight of the latest patients, three of them police officials, are assigned in Metro Manila.

Eight others are in Central Visayas, four in Calabarzon, two from the Aviation Security Group and one each from the Special Action Force, Highway Patrol Group and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Banac had earlier expressed concern over the increase in the number of confirmed cases after Metro Manila and most parts of the country were placed on a more relaxed community quarantine.

The PNP has put in place measures to protect its personnel from the virus,
such as limiting face-to-face transactions with civilians.
