Taguig posts biggest one-day spike in COVID infections

MANILA, Philippines — Taguig recorded 112 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 on Sunday, the highest since the city registered its first COVID-19 infection in March.

Of the 28 villages in Taguig, Barangay Fort Bonifacio posted the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 174 followed by Barangay Lower Bicutan with 146.

The city health department said the fresh cases of COVID-19 infections came from the construction site in Bonifacio Global City, which was placed on lockdown until today.

City hall said 104 of 860 construction workers have contracted the virus.

Based on data from the Department of Health, a total of 1,086 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Taguig with 167 recoveries and 23 deaths.

There were 3,753 probable carriers or those who had contact with COVID-19 patients.

In a related development, regional trial courts in Taguig reopened yesterday after a 14-day lockdown.

Executive Judge Antonio Olivete said all court personnel have been cleared from COVID-19 after undergoing swab tests.
