Soldier hurt in accidental firing
MANILA, Philippines — A 43-year-old Army soldier was wounded in an alleged accidental firing at the Presidential Security Group (PSG) compound in Paco, Manila on Saturday.
S/Sgt. Remigio Barrozo, of Commonwealth, Quezon City, was taken to the V. Luna Hospital for treatment.
Suspect Sgt. Mamerto Sonongon, also an Army member, was placed in the custody of the Manila Police District (MPD).
A police report said the incident happened at the PSG engineering compound at around 9:20 a.m.
According to a source, military personnel who brought Sonongon to the MPD said the suspect was allegedly shooting birds when a bullet recoiled and hit Barrozo accidentally.
