Talisay market schedules set for amendment

Gabriel C. Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  With the increasing cases of COVID-19, Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr is set to amend the present market schedules.

Gullas, in a Facebook post yesterday, said he will issue another executive order this weekend in an attempt to help flatten the curve of COVID-19 cases in the city.

Talisay City now has a total of 337 confirmed cases of COVID-19, but only 114 are active cases as of July 2.

“Large barangays will not be scheduled together on the same day,” he said.

He said the new market schedules will apply to all malls and supermarkets in the city and will take effect on Monday, July 6.

“Sauna man gud we coordinated with free rides sa barangay for the market schedule and gi-target sa schedule is the route of the free rides. Now with public transportation in place, we have to change the market schedule na dili mag dungan ang dagko nga barangay,” he said.

He was referring to Barangays Cansojong, Poblacion, Tabunok and San Isidro.

The new market schedules will not only cover the Tabunok Public Market but also private markets, malls, groceries, supermarket chains, and other establishments selling basic and essential goods.

This means that the establishments may only cater to customers coming from barangays who are on their market day’s schedule.

The mayor said he also directed all 22 barangays to regulate the schedule of barangay markets and the police to continue apprehending violators.

“Continue the aggressive arrest of violators,” said Gullas.

For his part, Police Major Gerard Ace Pelare, chief of the Talisay City Police Station, said violators of the new market schedules will be arrested.

He said the new rules will prevent people from going out of their houses.

He said that persons who would visit the markets on days outside their market schedules would not be allowed to enter the establishment and will be arrested.

As of yesterday, a total of 3,700 violators were apprehended.  KQD (FREEMAN)
