MANILA, Philippines — The largest barangay in Parañaque City is nearing 130 confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, the city government said yesterday.

Barangay BF Homes, also the largest barangay in the country, has recorded 128 COVID-19 cases – the second highest in the city – as of June 29, with 65 recoveries and nine deaths.

At 54 active cases, BF Homes has the most number of active cases in Parañaque.

Barangay San Dionisio recorded 153 confirmed cases, with 19 active cases, 131 recoveries and three deaths.

Most of the cases in BF Homes came from the Sampaloc area, the city’s public information office said.

The subdivision also recorded the highest number of fatalities among the city’s 16 barangays, with nine since the pandemic started last March.

“New coronavirus cases are going up every day in BF Homes. It started when residents disregarded health protocols when the national government placed Metro Manila under general community quarantine,” said Dr. Darius Sebastian, city epidemiology and surveillance unit chief.

Parañaque has recorded 1,072 confirmed cases, with 277 active cases, 738 recoveries and 57 deaths since June 29.

In Navotas, the city government’s medium-rise housing complex in Barangay San Roque was put on lockdown starting on Monday until 11:59 p.m. on July 12 after eight confirmed cases were recorded in the complex.
