Barangay kagawad manning checkpoint slain

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — A barangay councilman was killed while his companion was wounded in a gun attack in Barangay Citrus, San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan yesterday.

Arnel Aspile, 57, was manning a quarantine checkpoint when he was shot in the head, Col. Eric Noble, Central Luzon police deputy director for operations, said in his report.

Aspile died at the scene. Village watchman Samuel Abas, 45, was wounded.

The gunmen fled toward Barangay Minuyan.
