MANILA, Philippines — Seventeen more workers at a construction site in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019, bringing to 34 the number of workers infected with COVID-19.

The city government placed the area under localized lockdown until July 7 to prevent the spread of the virus.

Officials of Barangay Fort Bonifacio said the infected workers were brought to a quarantine facility for isolation and treatment.

Last week, 17 workers tested positive for COVID-19 while 10 others were considered suspected cases.

The city health office said Barangay Fort Bonifacio recorded the highest number of COVID-19 infections in Taguig with 101.

There were 787 cases of COVID-19 in the city with 21 deaths and 142 recoveries.

Health workers on quarantine

In Pasig, personnel of the city health office are undergoing quarantine amid exposure to a COVID-19 patient, Mayor Vico Sotto announced yesterday.

Sotto appealed for public understanding, saying the issuance of travel certificates to residents would be delayed due to the incident.

He said the city hall would adopt a skeletal workforce to continue its operations.

Data from the Department of Health showed that as of Saturday, Pasig recorded 736 cases of COVID-19, including 65 deaths and 323 recoveries.
