Zamboanga Norte cop chief held for extortion
ZAMBOANGA, Philippines — The police chief of Godod town in Zamboanga del Norte was arrested for alleged extortion on Thursday.
Capt. Haran Ulah was apprehended in an entrapment set up by agents of the police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) at his office before 5 p.m.
IMEG director Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee said Ulah’s arrest stemmed from a complaint from treasure hunter Jose Abarca, who claimed the police official demanded P10,000 in exchange for ”unhampered treasure hunting activities” of the complainant.
Police said Ulah accepted P5,000 in marked money from the victim.
Ulah was disarmed of his M16 rifle and a caliber .45 pistol.
He faces charges for robbery and extortion as well as dismissal from the service.
