11 more cops infected

MANILA, Philippines — Eleven more police officers have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, the Philippine National Police said yesterday.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said the latest cases brought the number of infected police officers to 518.

“The confirmed cases of PNP personnel represents roughly 1.6 percent of the 31,825 infected nationwide,” Banac said.

Nine police officers have died of COVID-19, four of them from Central Visayas.

Banac said 313 or about 60.42 percent of those infected have recovered.

He said 22 remain confined in hospitals while 174 are quarantined either in government facilities or at their homes.

At Camp Nakar in Quezon, a quarantine facility intended for infected police officers was inaugurated on Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. Calabarzon police director, said the construction of the facility was funded by the provincial government of Quezon .

The Lucena City government and private entities led by the Federation of Filipino Chamber of Commerce provided the medical equipment.
