‘Terrorist’ nabbed in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A suspected terrorist tagged in bomb attacks in Sultan Kudarat has been arrested in Maguindanao.

Momong Esmael was collared along the Cotabato-Isulan Highway in Ampatuan town on Sunday.

Esmael, a follower of Dawla Islamiya leader Iman Bongos, did not resist when police officers showed him a warrant for his arrest in connection with his involvement in bombing incidents in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat in 2018.

The Dawla Islamiya is one of three factions of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, which sympathizes with the Islamic terror group.

Esmael is detained at the municipal police station in Isulan, some 20 kilometers south of Ampatuan.
