3 Masbate jail escapees slain

MANILA, Philippines — Three escapees from the Masbate sub-provincial jail were killed in an alleged shootout with police officers in Milagros town on Wednesday.

Police identified the fatalities as Bryan Basulgan, 22, who was charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and rape suspects Jose Jeven Fuentes, 30, and Richard Espasyos, 37.

Another inmate managed to escape.

Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said the suspects opened fire when cornered in Barangay Bonbon.
