No such thing as holy alcohol – church
MANILA, Philippines — While the use of rubbing alcohol is encouraged to prevent contracting coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, the Archdiocese of Pampanga Liturgical Commission yesterday denied the existence of “holy alcohol.”
The church issued the clarification in a post on social media, describing the supposed existence of “holy alcohol” as fake news.
“News that the Church has replaced holy water with holy alcohol is fake, although alcohol is provided as we enter the church to prevent contamination and spread of COVID,” the church said.
“There is no sacramental holy alcohol. That we should make the sign of the cross when we rub it to ourselves is fake news. Moreover, it should not be sprinkled on the faithful. There is no substitute to holy water,” it added.
The archdiocese also clarified that there are no “holy face masks, holy face shields, holy sanitizers, holy personal protective equipment and holy goggles.”
“This is an irreverent marketing strategy or gimmick,” it said.
